A Ministry of Celebration

Celebrating birthdays,
one sparkle
at a time.

Every birthday is a threshold worth honoring. Love in Layers brings cakes and cards to people who deserve to know they are seen, loved, and worth celebrating.

Celebration is a sacred act

Love in Layers is a ministry of celebration rooted in the belief that every person deserves to be marked, witnessed, and delighted at the turning of another year. We show up with donations of birthday cakes and cards — with intention, offered with love.

We are especially called to serve those who too often go uncelebrated: people living in poverty, isolation, navigating grief or transition, or simply those who have never had someone show up just for them.

Founded by Rev. JeKaren Bell — ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, certified Death and Grief Doula, and artist — Love in Layers weaves together ritual, creativity, and community care into one beautiful act: the birthday celebration.

"A cake is not just flour and sugar. It is someone saying: you are here, and your being here matters."

How a gift becomes a moment

Every donation flows directly into materials, time, and care — translated into a real celebration for a real person.

1
A gift arrives

Donors contribute to the Love in Layers ministry fund. Every amount goes toward supplies, kits, cards, and the time it takes to make something worthy of someone's life.

2
A celebration is made

A birthday cake is ordered and a card is written. Each card is made with care by an artist, no AI. Cakes are ordered when possible, but cake kits are also donated to nonprofits.

3
Someone is seen

The cake and card reach someone who might otherwise have passed their birthday unacknowledged. They receive the message every person deserves: you matter, and we are glad you are here.

We'd love to hear from you
